LOVE HOTEL

Love Hotel brings together photographs of the facades of Japanese love hotels, taken in 2023 during a road trip from Tokyo to Shikoku Island. François Prost offers a vernacular portrait of Japan — weathered signs, colorful facades, roadsides — far from the usual clichés. From the sprawling megalopolis to the orderly countryside, these establishments, emblematic of Japanese popular culture, parade before his lens.

Originally, these hotels offered couples a space for intimacy that small family homes did not allow. A room outside the home, dedicated solely to love.

The project brings together several hundred images and extends a series dedicated to nocturnal facades: *After Party* (2011/23, France) and *Gentlemen's Club* (2019, USA).
