Until Death Do Us Part looks at the unexpected role of cigarettes in Chinese weddings. Traditionally, the bride lights a cigarette for each male guest as a sign of gratitude. The newlyweds are then invited to participate in ingenious cigarette-related games. This publication pays tribute to a tradition where love and death walk side by side. The photographs come from the Beijing Silvermine project, an archive of five hundred thousand negatives recovered over the years from a recycling plant on the outskirts of Beijing.
